Kelly Narowitz art educator/artist

Getting to know Kelly:
Hello,
My name is Kelly Narowitz. I have been a lifelong learner and artist. I started as a working artist at the age of 10 when I sold my handmade bracelets at lunch in middle school. Since then my artistic practice has grown to include metalsmithing, painting, drawing and multimedia techniques. I received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in Screen Arts and Cultures in 2009. After that I worked in the industry in Chicago and at home in Detroit for a few years as an editor, producer and graphic designer.
Over the years I have sought a way to not only use my creative talents but to use them to give back and build my community. This ideology has guided me back to school to pursue a career in teaching. In 2013 I decided to get Certified in Art Education. Making movies is fun and creatively demanding work, but for me I needed a way to give of myself and foster creativity in others. Becoming an art teacher is what fulfills this need for me.
My time in the filmmaking industry has taught me how to be organized and keep track of goals in order to make deadlines. Being a lifelong learner has developed in me an excitement for new challenges and techniques. I enjoy being part of a community, and I feel it is important to give back. These attributes, I believe, make me an ideal candidate for becoming an educator.
My goal is to find a position where I can use these skills and ideals to create and foster a creative community that appreciates the benefits of an education in the arts. I believe learning about the arts, whether you want to one day work in the arts or not, is an important goal for all members of a community. Art allows us to see others in a new light, to relate to those we thought were so different from us, and to come together as a community. It is my ambition to take an active role in building a community like this.
In April of 2016 I will receive my Certification in Art Education K-12 with a focus on Secondary Education.
